Benchmark indices closed higher in a volatile session on March 8.
At the close, the Sensex was up 123.63 points, or 0.21%, at 60,348.09 and the Nifty was up 42.90 points, or 0.24%, at 17,754.40. About 1894 shares rose, 1502 shares declined and 1119 shares remained unchanged.
IndusInd Bank, Adani Ports, Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Auto, and M&M were the top Nifty gainers, while Bajaj Finance, Hindalco Industries, Tech Mahindra, Apollo Hospitals, and Infosys were the losers.
On the sectoral front, trends were mixed, with the power index up nearly 2 percent, capital goods and auto indices up 1 percent each, while IT, metals, pharma, and realty names saw selling.
The BSE midcap index gained 0.60 percent and the smallcap index gained 0.3 percent.
