Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians have won their second match in a row in the Women's Premier League. Mumbai defeated RCB by nine wickets in the fourth match of the tournament. This is RCB's second defeat in a row and Smriti Mandhan's team may be in trouble now.
In this match, RCB won the toss and scored 155 runs in 18.4 overs while batting first. Richa Ghosh played the highest knock of 28 runs. At the same time, Hilly Mathews took three wickets from Mumbai. In reply, Mumbai scored 159 runs for the loss of one wicket in just 14.2 overs and won the match. Hilly Mathews also batted brilliantly and scored 77 not out. At the same time, Nat Shiver scored an unbeaten knock of 55 runs.
Smriti Mandhana along with Sophie Devine (16) gave RCB a strong start after winning the toss and deciding to bat. With the duo batting, RCB looked set to do something big, but Saika Ishaq dismissed Devine first and Disha Kast two balls later. In the next over, Hayley Mathews dismissed Mandhana (23) and Heather Knight in two consecutive balls to reduce RCB to 43 for four. RCB lost four wickets in eight balls. Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry (13) along with Richa Ghosh took the score to 71, but here Perry was unfortunately run out. All RCB's hopes rested on Richa Ghosh. She scored 28 runs with six and three fours but was caught by Nat Shiver as Hilly Mathews came into the attack. After seven wickets for 112 in 13.3 overs, RCB's innings looked set to end soon, but Shreyanka Patil hit four fours to take RCB to a respectable total. She added 34 runs with Megan Shutt (20). Shreyanka was dismissed after scoring 23 runs off 14 balls.
Chasing 156 runs, the duo of Yastika Bhatia and Hilly Mathews gave Mumbai a flying start. Both added 45 runs for the first wicket. Yastika Bhatia was dismissed for 23, but Mathews remained on the field. She completed her half-century in 26 balls and shared a half-century partnership with Nat Shiver to take Mumbai's score past 100 runs. Mumbai scored 110 runs for one wicket in 11 overs and the team's victory was assured. After this, Shiver also completed his half-century in 28 balls.
Hilly Mathews and Nat Shiver shared a century partnership for the second wicket to give Mumbai a win. Mathews scored an unbeaten 77 off 38 balls with the help of 13 fours and a six. At the same time, Nat Shiver scored an unbeaten 55 off 29 balls with the help of nine fours and a six. Priti Bose took the lone wicket for Bangalore.
RCB bowlers could have been more effective in this match. Renuka to Megan Schutt and Ellyse Perry all gave plenty of runs. RCB's bowlers had no answer to Mathews and Shiver. Apart from this, the RCB bowlers wasted many runs by bowling directionlessly. RCB will have to improve a lot in batting, bowling, and fielding to make a comeback in the upcoming period.
Hilly Mathews was awarded the man of the match award. She scored 3/28 while bowling and 77 not out while batting.
