The Nanwha Grama Panchayat of Saleksa Taluka of Gondia District has decided to register the marriage of love-married couples only if they have permission from their families. Immediately after this news reached through social media, a notice has been sent to the Sarpanch of Nanwa village, all office bearers, and village development officers. K. Abhijit of Right to Love and legal adviser Adv. Vaibhav Chaudhary informed that the Gram Panchayat received this notice yesterday.
He further said that incidents like opposition to love marriages are increasing in progressive states like Maharashtra. We are strongly protesting this incident on behalf of the organization 'Right to Love'. While the case in Nashik district is fresh, the Nanwha Gram Panchayat in Gondia district has also refused to register a love marriage if the parents do not have consent. The Gram Panchayat has no right to pass such an illegal and unconstitutional resolution. Our constitution gives us the right to choose a spouse. Regardless of the caste and religion of the spouse, this illegal decision violates the rights given by the constitution when the government is also planning to encourage inter-caste marriages.
He further said that as the resolution passed by the Nanva Gram Panchayat is illegal, we have sent a legal notice to the Nanva Gram Panchayat through our organization Right to Love asking them to cancel the resolution within 7 days of receiving the notice and if the resolution is not canceled within the specified period of the notice has been said that legal action will be taken against all the members and officers of the Gram PanchayatFor more information K.Abhijit of Right to Love +91 9766479547 and Legal Adviser Advt.
